Exciting opportunity for Peninsula jobs

7 June 2019

Mornington Peninsula Shire Council has welcomed the release of the Port of Hastings Development Authority’s Port Development Strategy and is now considering its findings.

“The Council has lobbied for more industrial land and this new strategy is the breakthrough needed.” Mayor Cr David Gill said.

There is approximately three and a half thousand hectares of port related land near Hastings and up to 400 hectares is being consider for light industrial purposes.

The land is surplus to Hastings Port requirements and the authority recommends industrial use options. “This will create jobs and increase economic output on the Peninsula,” said Mayor Gill.

The municipality is unable to meet business demand because suitably zoned land is unavailable. Planning zones musts be approved by the State Government.

“The biggest demand is for marine related light industries which would be terrific for the Peninsula because of lower environmental impact and a high ratio of jobs.

“The Shire will consider how this land may be used to best drive investment opportunities, support local job creation and other uses,” concluded Mayor Gill.
