Explore Careers Shaping WA’s Future At Deadly Jobs Expo

  • Aboriginal jobs and careers expo to attract 1,000 attendees, more than 70 exhibitors
  • Opportunity to explore jobs, training and careers across WA’s growing industries
  • Cook Labor Government supporting local businesses and creating jobs

The Cook Labor Government is encouraging First Nations people to explore the jobs, training and careers shaping Western Australia’s future at this year’s Deadly Jobs Expo.

Delivered in partnership between the Cook Labor Government and South Metropolitan TAFE, the Expo will bring together employers, training providers and support services in Rockingham, making it easy to discover career pathways, meet employers and access practical advice.

Around 1,000 people are expected to attend, with more than 70 exhibitors showcasing employment, apprenticeship, traineeship and training opportunities.

The expo comes as major investment across Rockingham, Kwinana and the Peel region continues to create demand for skilled workers in defence, manufacturing, construction, health, logistics and clean energy.

By 2035, WA is expected to need 145,000 additional workers across the key industries of building and construction, care, clean energy, tourism and hospitality, defence and advanced manufacturing.

Many employers will be actively recruiting on the day, with opportunities for attendees to discuss their skills and experience directly with employers. Jobseekers are encouraged to bring an up-to-date resume.

The Deadly Jobs Expo will be held from 9am to 2.30pm on Tuesday, 20 October at the Kadadjiny Mia Aboriginal Learning Centre (J Block), at South Metropolitan TAFE’s Rockingham campus on Simpson Avenue.

As stated by Skills and TAFE Minister Amber-Jade Sanderson:

“The Deadly Jobs Expo showcases the thousands of jobs being created through Western Australia’s growing economy and provides an opportunity for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples to engage directly with employers, industries and career pathways.

“The Cook Labor Government is investing in priority industries including construction, clean energy, manufacturing, health and community services and we want First Nations people to benefit from these opportunities.

“We are also expanding access to fee free and low fee TAFE courses and personalised support from Jobs and Skills Centres, enabling more Western Australians to develop the skills employers need.

“Whether you’re a student, jobseeker or looking to build new skills, I encourage you to get along to the expo and explore the career pathways on offer.”

As stated by Aboriginal Affairs Minister Don Punch:

“Increasing Aboriginal employment and economic participation remains a key priority for the Cook Labor Government, and we are committed to creating more opportunities for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people to continue contributing to Western Australia’s economic success.

“Aboriginal leadership, Aboriginal-led partnerships and strong community-based pathways are critical to ensuring Aboriginal people can access the jobs and opportunities being created across Western Australia’s growing economy.

“The Deadly Jobs Expo demonstrates that commitment by connecting people with practical opportunities, advice and support in one accessible location.”
