Discover the built, natural and cultural heritage of Boorloo (Perth) this April as the City of Perth presents the Lotterywest Boorloo Heritage Festival.
The Festival, inspired by World Heritage Day on 18 April, offers locals and visitors alike an opportunity to get to know our city in a whole new light — from guided walks to exhibitions, open houses, performances and immersive experiences.
City of Perth Lord Mayor Basil Zempilas said the unique program will foster a better understanding of Perth’s rich and varied history.
“The City and our neighbourhoods will come alive this April with more than 100 events and activities dedicated to sharing our unique story. There is something for everyone to see, do and learn,” Mr Zempilas said.
“This year, we’re celebrating some significant anniversaries including 125 years of the Department of Fire & Emergency Services and The Perth Mint, 120 years of His Majesty’s Theatre and 100 years of the Country Women’s Association (CWA) WA.
“The program will honour these important milestones with special events and activations from a gold nugget hunt at the Mint to celebrated homemade scones at the CWA open day.
And from April 21 – 28, the City of Perth is proud to support His Maj in the Limelight – a light and sound projection experience that celebrates the significance of His Majesty’s as a state heritage icon. The celebrations will also include musical performances, guided walks and street window displays highlighting the history and culture of His Majesty’s Theatre and the King Street Precinct.
Nearly all events are free which is great news for families looking to enjoy a Perth ‘staycation’ during the school holidays. Be sure to secure tickets in advance to avoid disappointment.
“The diverse program personifies our diverse city. My top picks include learning about the history of Afghan cameleers who travelled inland Australia, sailing on the Derbarl Yerrigan with Dockers icon Des Hedland for the Living Legends of the WAFL Cruise or finding Boorloo’s best ‘conti roll’ at The Perth Italian Festival.
