Expressions of Interest Open for 2021 Arafura Games

Planning forthe 2021 Arafura Games is underway with an expression of interest processreleased today for sports to put their hand up to be involved in 2021.

The expressionof interest is open for six weeks, closing on 27 September 2019.

Participationat the games will be offered to the peak sports bodies responsible fordelivering their sport in the Territory, as well as national and internationalsports federations and leagues in a partnership delivery model.

The expressionof interest will be sent to all sport contacts who have previously expressed aninterest, sports that were on the 2019 program and will also be available onthe Arafura Games website. It will detail key considerations for determiningthe 2021 sport program.

The final sportprogram will be determined by the Arafura Games Advisory Committee.

The 2019Arafura Game generated $13million in economicactivity for the Top End, creating jobs and income for our local businesses.

The local andinternational response to the games has been overwhelmingly positive, after theCLP scrapped the games in 2012.

We are alreadyplanning for the 2021 games to be bigger and better than the 2019 edition, andencourage any interested sports to get on board with the one of the Territorysbiggest sporting and community events.”
