Expressions of interest open for our Aboriginal Action Committee

If you’re an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander resident and keen to make a real difference in our community, there’s still time to consider joining Council’s Aboriginal Action Committee (AAC).

Members of the committee work in collaboration with Council to provide recommendations, support, advice and guidance to Council on all issues that relate to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in our community.

Councillor for Community Development and Gender Equality Helen Healy said the AAC offered a unique chance to improve opportunities for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.

“Progress has been made in our region to improve recognition of issues affecting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in our municipality, but there’s still so much that needs to be done,” Cr Healy said.

“Becoming a member of the Aboriginal Action Committee is a powerful way to bring about change, whether it be tackling issues important to our First Australians, or working to ensure recognition in our community.

“By working with the Aboriginal Action Committee and Council you’ll be helping to improve and enhance the well-being of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander residents in our region.”

Expressions of interest are now open and need to be submitted by 4pm on Friday 13 December.

Expressions of interest can either be hand-delivered to Council’s Deakin Avenue Service Centre, or posted to:
