Extended transition period: MEM05 Metal and Engineering Training Package and MEM Manufacturing and Engineering Training Package qualifications (x9)

ASQA is empowered to approve transition periods longer than those detailed in Clause 1.26(a) of the Standards for Registered Training Organisations 2015.

In accordance with the Guidance for Providers – Learner Transition, ASQA will only consider applications for a longer transition period where it can be demonstrated that there would be genuine disadvantage to a cohort of learners if such an extension was not approved.

ASQA has recently approved an extended transition period for the following training products:

  • MEM20413 Certificate II in Engineering Pathways
  • MEM30319 Certificate III in Engineering – Fabrication Trade
  • MEM30405 Certificate III in Engineering – Electrical/Electronic Trade
  • MEM30505 Certificate III in Engineering – Technical
  • MEM40412 Certificate IV in Engineering Drafting
  • MEM50212 Diploma of Engineering – Technical
  • MEM50311 Diploma of Jewellery and Object Design
  • MEM60112 Advanced Diploma of Engineering
  • MEM60211 Advanced Diploma of Jewellery and Object Design

The transition period for training, assessment and certification issuance for MEM20413 is extended from 17 December 2023 to 31 January 2024.

The transition period for training, assessment and certification issuance for all other qualifications listed above (except MEM20413) is extended from 17 December 2023 to 31 January 2025.

These extensions apply for students who have commenced training and/or assessment in their qualification on or before 17 December 2023, being the former transition end date. All students must either complete and receive certification or be transferred to replacement qualifications by the new transition end date.

Providers are also advised to develop plans to ensure all students complete these qualifications by the new end dates, and that these plans are made accessible for ASQA’s review, if requested.

ASQA has consulted with the Victorian Registration and Qualifications Authority and the Training Accreditation Council of Western Australia regarding this extended transition period.

ASQA has sought advice from the Manufacturing Industry Skills Alliance Jobs and Skills Council regarding these extensions.

The training products referenced above will remain on RTOs’ scope of registration until the end of the extended transition period.
