Extension on pool and spa registrations
In December 2019, the State Government introduced new regulations, requiring owners of a pools or spas capable of holding more than 300mm (30cm) of water to register it with their local Council by June 1, 2020.
This deadline has been extended due to the impacts of coronavirus (COVID-19).
The new government regulations aim to make swimming pools and spas safer and prevent young children from drowning. They do this by ensuring ongoing compliance with state building regulations.
The registration process has not changed and owners are still required to register their pools and spas with Council.
Once registration is complete, Council will inform the pool owner of the date by which they must organise their first inspection and certification of their barrier – the deadline for owners to lodge their first barrier certification will also be extended.
Owners who do not register their pool or spa with their Council by November 1, 2020 could receive an on-the-spot fine of $330.
Strathbogie Shire Council Team Leader Building Health and Compliance Services Cameron Fraser said locals had done a great job registering their pools and spas and thanked them for their efforts.
“The five month extension is great news and gives us some breathing space as we continue to be impacted by coronavirus,” Mr Fraser said.
Council is accepting registrations from now until November 1.
