Fail to comply – boat party

WA Police have infringed a 42-year-old man from Yokine who hosted a Boxing Day party in breach of COVID restrictions.

The man advertised the boat party as a ticketed event, which took place on a chartered boat that departed the Barrack St Jetty in Perth at 6.20pm on 26 December.

A social media video of the event showed people standing in close proximity, dancing to music and consuming alcohol, and patrons did not appear to be wearing face masks.

The COVID Restrictions (Gathering and Related Measures) Directions that came into effect from 6.00pm on 23 December prohibit music events and dancing at premises, including on a vessel.

Police obtained the video evidence and interviewed the man, who made full admissions.

He will be issued with a $5,000 infringement for failing to comply with a Direction (Corporate) under s.86(1)(a) of the Emergency Management Act 2005.
