On the same day the City opens up to locals and visitors, the highly-anticipated Dutton Plaza Car Park redevelopment in Cabramatta was officially opened to the public on 11 October 2021 by Fairfield City Mayor Frank Carbone and councillors.

The new 219-space car park at the corner of Hughes Street and Dutton Lane connects to the existing multi-storey car park, taking the total car parking spaces in the Dutton Plaza precinct to 991. In addition to the increased parking, the ground floor now includes a designated loading area for service vehicles, taking loading traffic off surrounding streets.

The $17.6m project was developed and funded by Fairfield City Council on behalf of the community. Fairfield City Mayor Frank Carbone said the multi-storey car park will deliver much-needed parking solutions at one of the City’s busiest town centres.

“The timing couldn’t be better. As we reopen our City to locals and visitors, we are pleased to be able to open a new carpark for Cabramatta. We are continuing our investment in Cabramatta by responding to community priorities with the provision of more car parking spaces,” Mayor Carbone said.

“Cabramatta is a must-visit destination for all of Sydney. It is the epicentre of Vietnamese and Asian dining, shopping and culture.

“We have listened to local residents, businesses and visitors who have all told us that they want convenient access to parking in the Cabramatta town centre so they can get on with their daily lives with minimal fuss.

“Council is committed to supporting local businesses, and this car park will go a long way in supporting shoppers and businesses in this popular destination.”

The car park features a new lift and pedestrian connection to Dutton Plaza; motorcycle and bicycle parking, a parents room, well-lit spaces, increased CCTV and clear sight lines throughout for improved safety and security.

Its environmentally sensitive design includes sensor LED lighting, solar panels, electric car charging bays, and a bio-filtration irrigation system that harvests rainwater for the surrounding garden beds.

The entire car park facade received a multi-coloured facelift, coupled with green planting that complements the award winning design features of Dutton Plaza, and the vibrancy of the centre. Sections of Hughes Street, Dutton Lane, and surrounding pedestrian pathways also received an upgrade as part of the development, including new public seating and landscaped areas.

Council expects to provide an additional 350,000 parking spaces per year with the Dutton Plaza Car Park redevelopment. Coupled with the 569 off-street car parking spaces provided by Council in the Cabramatta town centre, and in addition to the 1,601 on-street spaces nearby, Council continues its investment in the economic health of the vibrant town centre.
