Family First push for Upper House seat gains momentum with 20 Lower House candidates endorsed

Family First

With six months until the 13 March 2027 NSW state election, Family First has endorsed 20 Legislative Assembly candidates as a key part of its campaign to elect National Director Lyle Shelton to the Legislative Council.

The party’s primary aim is to secure an Upper House seat, where a statewide vote of three to five percent can deliver representation. Lower house candidates play a vital role by placing the Family First name on ballots across the state, building local presence and helping lift the Upper House vote.

The 20 candidates bring diverse real-world experience. They include Afghan war veteran and pastor Philip Finau (Mount Druitt), who served as an infantryman with Mentoring Task Force 1; Army Reserve member and community housing worker Jeremy Antcliffe (Camden); builder and TAFE carpentry teacher Isaac Yakoubi (Oatley); and biotech/pharma manufacturing executive Pieter Swan (Prospect). Others are teachers, small business owners, engineers and community volunteers-many of them parents and church members.

Family First currently has 200 volunteers distributing 200,000 leaflets. The party is also running a social media and digital television advertisement featuring Lyle Shelton: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hwj92umu7aY.

“These candidates are stepping up to help put Family First on the map in seats across NSW and give us the best chance of winning a seat in the Upper House,” Mr Shelton said.

“With the One Nation surge, voters could turbo-charge their vote for values by putting Family First number one on their ballot papers because their number two preference would still flow.

“But a number two vote for Family First would be a waste of a values vote as it would likely exhaust,” Mr Shelton warned.

“Voting one for Family First is how we get a strong voice for families into the NSW Parliament will still achieving the system shake-up so many want.”
