As put by Senior Sergeant Mike Jackson:
Police can confirm one person has died following a crash just north of Ashburton this morning.
The two-vehicle crash on Rakaia Highway was reported just after 5am.
One person died at the scene, two other people were seriously injured.
Rakaia Highway remains closed between Racecourse Road and Northpark Road, and will remain closed for about another hour.
Motorists are advised to expect delays.
