Fatality – Howard Springs

Northern Territory Police are investigating the circumstances of a crash which resulted in the death of a male cyclist.

At about 7:00pm last night, the 30-year-old American was bicycling inbound along Gunn Point Road near Howard Springs Reserve when he was struck from behind by a vehicle travelling in the same lane. The driver of the vehicle and witnesses travelling nearby stopped to render medical assistance.

St John Ambulance, NT Police and NT Fire & Rescue Service responded to the scene. The rider died at the scene from his injuries.

Gunn Point Road remained closed throughout the morning with diversions in place while Major Crash Investigation Unit processed the scene. Detectives are continuing to investigate the circumstances of the crash.

Detective Senior Sergeant Brendan Lindner said, “The driver of the vehicle involved and witnesses are assisting police with the investigation. We ask for any additional witnesses to come forward. Anyone who saw a male cyclist on a red bicycle and wearing a navy blue backpack along Gunn Point Road prior to 7:00pm last night is urged to contact police on 131 444”.
