Father’s Day Memorial – chance to reflect

Townsville City Council’s Father’s Day Memorial is on this Saturday from 9am to 10am at Belgian Gardens Cemetery.

Community and Cultural Development Committee chairperson Cr Ann-Maree Greaney said the memorial was a special ceremony ahead of Father’s Day and provides a safe and inclusive space for the Townsville community to connect.

“At its core, fostering a compassionate community is vital for our residents to find solace and build resilience as they navigate the path of grief,” Cr Greaney said.

“At Council we are committed to offering opportunities which nurture connections between people and fostering a sense of belonging. Events like the Father’s Day Memorial allow us to unite as a community, offering support and comfort to one another throughout our grief journeys.”

Cr Greaney said there would be several special touches during the memorial.

“The Father’s Day Memorial will include words of reflection with Amanda Medill and soul music by the Townsville Guitar Orchestra. Visitors will be able to create a custom coaster and bookmark in memory of their loved one and will receive a grave care pack and native plant to take home,” she said.

“I would like to extend my heartfelt invitation to anyone who carries the weight of loss to join us at this special event.”

A light breakfast will be provided by Rotary Sunrise and Shelley Beans Coffee.
