Fawkner Highway Patrol officers were left shaking their heads after they pulled over two high-range speeders in Jacana and Broadmeadows this morning.
Officers were on patrol when they detected a vehicle travelling at an alleged speed of 232km/h in an 80km/h zone on the Pascoe Vale exit ramp from the Western Ring Road about 1.37am.
Police caught up to and intercepted the vehicle in Jacana and spoke to the 21-year-old alleged driver.
The P2 probationary driver had his vehicle impounded at a cost of $999.52 and will is expected to be charged on summons with an array of offences including driving at a speed dangerous, not displaying P plates, exceed speed 45+ and driving a prohibited vehicle.
Later that morning, officers were patrolling the Broadmeadows area when they detected another speeding vehicle, this time at 151km/h in a 70km/h zone on Broadmeadows Road.
Police intercepted the vehicle, and the 18-year-old alleged driver will also find himself without his car after it was impounded at a cost of $966.50.
He is expected to receive a summons for driving offences.
It’s no coincidence that speeding is the leading cause of road trauma and police urge motorists to slow down and stop putting yourself and others at risk.
