Feedback wanted on Palm Cove and its future

As one of Cairns’ most popular and iconic beach communities, Council is calling for community input to help shape the Palm Cove Streetscape and Landscape Master Plan.

Cairns Mayor Bob Manning said this consultation was the first step in understanding what residents liked about Palm Cove before work began on the Master Plan.

“Palm Cove has a unique identity and a much-loved character that is highly valued by locals as well as visitors,” Cr Manning said.

The previous Landscape Master Plan for Palm Cove (which also included the other northern beach suburbs) was prepared in 1999.

Since then, the suburb has doubled in resident population up from 1,100 in 2001 to 2,270 in 2020.

Division 9 Councillor Brett Olds said that as the area has evolved and become ever-more popular, the community has identified opportunities and areas for improvement along the Esplanade and foreshore.

“This is a chance for locals to have their say and give Council feedback, which can be used to guide development of the Master Plan.”

Further community engagement will occur once a draft Master Plan has been developed to ensure the community’s views and inputs have been appropriately represented.
