Infrastructure Minister Michael Ferguson claims he has delivered a 2018 election promise but has he?
Shadow Transport Minister Josh Willie said the government’s ferry service had taken years to leave the berth and was now a shell of what was once promised.
“After three years of talking, Minister for Announcements Michael Ferguson has once again made an announcement, this time telling Tasmanians about the empty ferries that will be trialling on the Derwent over the coming weeks.”
Mr Willie said in the lead up to the 2018 election the Liberals promised an integrated commuter ferry service to be operated by Metro.
“In 2018 the Liberals promised a Metro operated service along with two new ferry terminals, including a $45 million Kangaroo Bay development. However, despite the parliament passing legislation to facilitate it, Metro will not be running the service and neither of the terminals will be built.
“Hobart commuters can feel rightly disappointed in Mr Ferguson’s announcement today with three years of failures on this project resulting in no improvement to Hobart’s traffic congestion woes.
“While Minister Ferguson spends his time re-announcing old, scaled down promises, Hobart commuters continue to face traffic congestion chaos.
“Today’s announcement is a step in the right direction but it is three years late and not what was promised.”
