Be brave, be bold, be brilliant and enter Townsville City Council’s short story competition for this year’s Festival of Stories.
CityLibraries are holding a short story competition for writers of all ages who will go in the running to win a cash prize.
Community and Cultural Development Committee Chair Cr Colleen Doyle said the short story competition is a fantastic way to encourage budding writers to develop their skills.
“Townsville is incredibly lucky to have a thriving arts culture, and this includes not only our performers and musicians but a talented community of writers,” Cr Doyle said.
“The theme for the short story competition is Be Brave, Be Bold and Be Brilliant and there are three age categories to give everyone a chance to share their story and win.
“The judging panel will include the wonderful graphic novelist Mirranda Burton – one of our Festival of Stories guests – and two other authors so this is a wonderful opportunity to share work with established writers.
“It’s great that through our Libraries we can promote storytelling and the joy of writing with people of all capabilities.”
The three age categories are:
- Children: 0 to 11 years – max 500 words
- Young Adult: 12 to 17 years – max 1000 words
- Adult: 18+ – max 2000 words
The competition opened today, and entrants can submit their story up until Saturday 3 August.
