Fifth arrest after contraband investigation at correctional centre in Sydney’s north-west

Police have charged a fifth person as part of an ongoing investigation into the introduction of contraband into a correctional facility in Sydney’s north-west.

Last month, detectives from the Corrective Services Investigation Unit established Strike Force Bundawarrah to investigate reports of alleged corrupt activity by a male correctional officer.

A 26-year-old man, who is a correctional officer, has been charged as a result of investigations, as well as a 34-year-old woman and two male inmates, aged 30 and 31. All four remain before the courts.

Following further investigations, strike force investigators attended the correctional facility at Parklea and arrested a 23-year-old male inmate about 12.20pm yesterday (Thursday 30 April 2020).

Police will allege in court that he planned to introduce contraband to the facility.

The man was issued a Court Attendance Notice for corruptly give/offer to give agent benefit.

He is due to appear at Blacktown Local Court on Monday 27 July 2020.

Investigations under Strike Force Bundawarrah continue.
