Final stage of Browns Lane improvements

280x280 Browns Lane - Jarman to Manilla

Work will start next week on a $1.1 million road upgrade project which will benefit Hills Plain residents through a major improvement to the local road network.

An unsealed section of Browns Lane, between Jarman Road and Manilla Road, will be widened and finished with a bitumen seal and adjacent stormwater drainage will be improved.

Tamworth Regional Council Mayor Col Murray said the roadway will become a key additional link route for nearby residents.

“The upgrade of this one kilometre section of Browns Lane will complete improvements to Browns Lane which started in 2018,” he said. “It will be particularly convenient to residents of the growing Moore Creek Gardens area who will be able to use it as an alternate access to Manilla Road.”

The first stage of road improvements involved renewal and widening works on Browns Lane between Moore Creek Road and Forest Road. It was funded is being funded through Council’s road renewal budget allocation, Federal Assistance Grants, Council’s reserve and Section 94 developer contributions.

The second stage included the recently completed new roundabout at the intersection of the lane and Moore Creek Road. Funding for the $1.7m project included an $800,000 Australian Government grant under its 2018-19 Black Spot Programme.

Construction on the third stage of the Browns Lane Upgrade will start Monday 20 May. The work is expected to take three months. It is being funded using Section 94 developer contributions.

While the construction work is in progress, it is necessary to close Browns Lane to through traffic between Jarman Road and Manilla Road. Residents needing to access their properties have access at all times using Moore Creek Road.
