A total of 30 individual nurses and midwives and 4 nursing and midwifery teams of Western Australia’s most dedicated nurses and midwives have been chosen as finalists for the 2020 WA Nursing and Midwifery Excellence Awards, to be announced in May.
The award finalists, who will be presented in 12 categories, were selected from an inspiring field of nominees. They were nominated by their colleagues and patients as exemplary nurses and midwives who are making a significant difference to their professions, their organisations and to the health of Western Australians. The finalists represent all levels of experience and are from a range of work and practice environments.
Health Minister, the honourable Roger Cook announced the finalists at an event last week.
Western Australia’s 39,000 nurses and midwives play a pivotal role in the State’s health system and are at the forefront of ensuring compassionate, safe and cost-effective care.
2020 has been designated as Year of the Nurse and Midwife in honour of the 200th anniversary of the birth of Florence Nightingale – the founder of modern nursing – and these finalists exemplify all she embraced.
The WA Nursing and Midwifery Awards is an annual event coordinated by the Department of Health, on behalf of all public, private and non-government workplaces.
This year is the 17th year of the awards and finalists are based throughout Western Australia, from public, private, education and community workplaces.
Winners, including the 2020 WA Nurse or Midwife of the Year and the recipient of the 2020 Lifetime Achievement Honour, will be announced at a gala dinner later in the year.
