Find Your New Best Friend At Dog Adoption Day

Looking to welcome a four-legged companion into your family? Cairns residents can meet a range of rescue dogs and puppies searching for forever homes at Dog Adoption Day on Saturday 22 August.

The community event will be held from 9am to 1pm at the Aeroglen Dog Off-Leash Park, next to the Touch Park, bringing together local rescue organisations with dogs ready to start their next chapter with a loving family.

All dogs available for adoption are de-sexed and vaccinated, making them ready for adoption.

Giving rescue dogs a second chance

Division 5 Councillor Rob Pyne encouraged animal lovers to come along and meet the dogs waiting for a home.

“There is something incredibly special about giving a rescue dog a forever home,” Cr Pyne said.

“Every dog deserves love, care and the chance to be part of a family. Dog Adoption Day is all about creating those life-changing connections between people and pets.”

“While the puppies are guaranteed to steal plenty of hearts, I also encourage people to spend time meeting our older dogs. They have so much love to give, wonderful personalities and can make the most loyal companions.”

“Bringing a dog into your home is a long-term commitment, but it is also one of the most rewarding decisions you can make. You may just find your new best friend waiting for you on the day.”

Local rescue groups coming together

Participating rescue groups include:

  • YAPS
  • North Queensland Animal Rescue
  • RSPCA Cairns
  • Cairns Animal Rescue
  • Rags to Riches

Visitors can also support local rescue organisations through a raffle, with coffee and cold drinks available throughout the morning.

Residents are reminded not to bring their own pets, as the dog park will be closed for public use during the event.
