Fingerboards Mine Project

On 20 October 2020, Wellington Shire Council resolved to lodge a submission to the Fingerboards Mine Project Environmental Effects Statement (EES) process, prior to the 29 October 2020 cut-off date.

The EES process provides an opportunity for all community members and relevant stakeholders to present their view directly to the State Government on the merits, or otherwise, of the project prior to the State Government making a decision on the project.

Council’s submission supports the project, but expresses a clear preference for rail transport to be utilised for the project and seeks a clear commitment that all relevant environmental issues will be appropriately assessed and mitigated.

Provided the environmental and amenity concerns are addressed, Council recognises the significant economic benefits of the project, should it be approved and proceed.

Council was entitled to consider and endorse the submission during caretaker period and now looks forward to the State Government’s further assessment of all relevant social, economic, cultural and environmental issues associated with the project.
