Fire damages two houses at Greenacres, South Australia

Quick work by patrols helped a family escape a house fire at Greenacres overnight.

When a patrol arrived at Princes Road, Greenacres just after 1am on Sunday 1 May they found a house well ablaze.

The two occupants of the house were trapped inside the premises. The patrol was prevented from reaching them by bars on windows and locked doors but managed to provide clear directions to help the occupants safely exit the house.

A 66-year-old woman and a 37-year-old man both sustained smoke inhalation and minor burns and were taken to the Royal Adelaide Hospital. Their injuries are not considered life threatening.

The house was completely destroyed and sadly several pets perished in the blaze.

The police officers also sustained some smoke exposure and minor grazes from their efforts.

The fire spread to a neighbouring house causing significant damage to the roof and two cars. The two occupants of this house were also able to safely evacuate.

Fire cause investigators will attend and examine the scene in daylight.

Anyone with information that may assist the investigation into the cause of the fire is asked to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
