Council has adopted an
updated Municipal Fire Management Plan, which aims to protect community members,
properties and the environment from the threat of fire.
The
plan provides a blueprint for co-ordinating prevention measures, that will reduce
the occurrence and effect of bushfires, grassfires, residential and industrial
fires.
The Municipal Fire Management Plan identifies areas and land use at risk of fire and
specifies how to treat each likelihood.
Some
of the fire management risk strategies include bushfire mapping, fuel reduction
works, community education and inspections of private properties.
The
document also outlines response plans and recovery phases of fire events.
No
major changes have been made to the plan, which has been endorsed by the
Municipal Fire Management Planning Committee and Municipal Emergency Management
Planning Committee.

Victoria is experiencing an
increase in the number and size of bushfires. When it comes to the threat of
fire, our municipality has the complexity of a city and several large townships
surrounded by rural land.However, the rigorous
analysis and broad-based consultation involved in preparing this high-quality
document are key to reducing the risk of fire and will lead to better responses
from the City, agencies and the community.
