Firearm and weapons seized after vehicle stop at Liverpool, NSW

A man will appear in court today charged after a firearm and weapons were allegedly seized from a vehicle in Sydney’s south west yesterday.

About 2.15pm (Tuesday 8 December 2020), officers attached to Liverpool City Police Area Command’s Proactive Crime Team attended a licenced premise on the Hume Highway, Liverpool, to conduct a business inspection.

Upon arrival, police stopped a Kia Cerato in the carpark for a random breath test, in which the male driver provided a negative result.

Officers noticed the driver allegedly attempting to conceal an object under the driver’s seat. Police opened the door of the vehicle and found a folding knife stored in the side of the door.

Following a search of the vehicle, officers located a torch that had been modified into a firearm, an electric stun device and ammunition contained inside a cigarette packet.

The 28-year-old was arrested and taken to Liverpool Police Station where he was charged with drive motor vehicle during disqualification period, custody of knife in public place, possess unauthorised prohibited firearm, possess prohibited weapon without permit and possess ammunition without holding licence/permit/authority.

The Ingleburn man was refused bail to appear before Liverpool Local court today (Wednesday 9 December 2020).
