Firearm seized following public place shooting investigation – Ballina

Investigators have seized a firearm and vehicle following an investigation into an alleged public place shooting at Ballina last month.

About 9.15pm on Monday 10 April 2023, emergency services were called to a home in Brunswick Street, Ballina, following reports of shots fired.

At the scene, police were told that shots had allegedly been fired into the front of the property. No one was injured.

A crime scene was established, with officers from Richmond Police District investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Following inquiries, a blue sedan was searched by Queensland Police at Newmarket, Queensland, revealing a firearm that police will allege was used in the shooting at Ballina.

The vehicle and firearm have been seized by investigators and will undergo forensic examination.

A 34-year-old man was arrested at the scene before being taken to Brisbane Police Station. He is currently bail refused to appear before Brisbane Magistrates Court on Wednesday 31 May 2023.

As inquiries continue, police have released images of the vehicle, and wish to speak with the passengers who police believe can assist with their inquiries.
