Firearms and drugs found during traffic stop at Mawson Lakes

A man and woman face several charges including firearms offences following a traffic stop in the northern suburbs today.

Police will allege just before 1.30pm today (Wednesday 31 July), a Licensing Enforcement Branch patrol conducted a traffic stop on Salisbury Highway, Mawson Lakes. Enquiries revealed the driver was suspended from driving.

A further search of the vehicle led to the patrol locating two handguns (one loaded), a home-made firearm, two silencers and 1.3kg of suspected methamphetamine in the vehicle. The female passenger was searched and she was found to be in possession of a large amount of cash.

A 38-year-old man and a 25-year-old woman from Underdale were arrested and charged with numerous offences including serious firearm offences and trafficking in a large commercial quantity of a controlled drug.

Both have been refused bail and will appear in the Elizabeth Magistrates Court tomorrow.
