Firearms charges at Hamilton

Detectives have charged a 31-year-old Fortitude Valley man with a range of offences following an alleged firearm incident in Hamilton this afternoon.

Police will allege about 12.20pm the man was driving along Kingsford Smith Drive in a black coupe when a red hatchback moved in front of him.

He engaged in an act of road rage with occupants of the hatchback, allegedly colliding with it and causing minor damage.

He then allegedly pointed a firearm out the driver’s side window and discharged it before driving off.

Police located the man shortly after at an address in Pinkenba where he was arrested and police recovered a modified rifle.

It will be further alleged the man earlier failed to pay for fuel from a service station on Kingsford Smith Drive.

He was charged with ten offences including possessing a shortened firearm, discharging a weapon in a public place, fraud, drive without due care and attention and driving without a driver licence.

Police have refused his bail.

He will appear at the Brisbane Magistrates Court tomorrow.
