Firearms, drugs and cash seized; man charged at Newtown, NSW

A man will face court today charged with 20 firearm and drug offences following a vehicle stop at Newtown.

About 9.20pm on Wednesday (3 February 2021), officers attached to Police Transport Command’s North Central Transport Action Group stopped a Mercedes C200 on King Street, Newton, and spoke to the driver, a 25-year-old man.

During a subsequent search of the vehicle, officers allegedly located more than $14,500 cash, cocaine and 20 LSD tabs.

He was arrested and taken to Mascot Police Station where he was charged with supply prohibited drug – indictable, supply prohibited drug, and deal with property proceeds of crime

As part of inquiries, investigators executed a search warrant at a unit on Cooks Avenue, Canterbury yesterday (Thursday 4 February 2021).

Officers allegedly located more than $20,000 cash, a shotgun, rifle, ammunition, 27.47 grams of MDMA along with 60 MDMA capsules, cocaine, LSD, prescription medication, and steroids.

Investigators have since laid an additional 20 charges including;

• Possess unauthorised firearm x2

• Possess unregistered firearm – not prohibited firearm/pistol x2

• Not keep firearm safely – not prohibited firearm/pistol x 2

• Possess ammunition without holding licence/permit/authority

• Supply prohibited drug – indictable quantity x 4

• Supply prohibited drug x2

• Possess prohibited drug x5

• Possess/attempt to, prescribed restricted substance

• Deal with property proceeds of crime

The man has been refused bail to appear Central Local Court today (Friday 5 February 2021).
