Firefighter safety and capability strengthen by $1.17 million Queensland Government investment

Minister for Police and Corrective Services and Minister for Fire and Emergency Services The Honourable Mark Ryan

Firefighters at Beenleigh Fire and Rescue Station received a major boost to their firefighting capability with a new Type 4 Urban appliance officially handed over today.

Minister for Fire and Emergency Services Mark Ryan, who inspected and handed over the appliance, said it was critical to support the local community with state-of-the-art equipment.

“The new 3000 litre Type 4, valued at more than $1.17 million, is part of Queensland Fire and Emergency Services Fleet Replacement Program – a program designed to ensure our firefighters have the best tools at hand,” Minister Ryan said.

“The appliance has an increased water pumping capacity and water holding capability, and carries both A and B class foam, meaning firefighters can respond to a range of incidents from structure fires to gasoline and diesel fires.

“This truck will support larger structural incidents to deliver a sustained supply of water and foam and will also support lifesaving incidents on highways where reticulated water is unavailable.

“The Palaszczuk Government committed a record budget of more than $900 million in 2022-23 to ensure that our fire and emergency services workers have the best services and equipment available so Queenslanders can continue to enjoy our enviable lifestyle,” the Minister said.

QFES Acting Deputy Commissioner Stephen Smith said firefighters played a vital role in community safety.

“Firefighters play an essential role in protecting people who live and work in Beenleigh and the surrounding area,” Acting Deputy Commissioner Smith said.

“As Beenleigh is growing, the local fire station was specifically selected to house the appliance due to its geographical location and proximity to the highway.

“Residents can rest assured this state-of-the-art truck means firefighters are safer and ready to respond at a moment’s notice.”
