The National Housing Supply and Affordability Council will hold its first meeting as a new permanent housing body today, following passage of the Albanese Government’s Housing Legislative Package.
The establishment of a permanent National Housing Supply and Affordability Council delivers on another election commitment of the Albanese Labor Government.
The Council will provide independent expert advice to Government to help boost housing supply and improve affordability.
Recent appointments have provided a high level of skills and experience to the Council across a range of critical housing issues, including First Nations housing, regional housing, development, construction and planning.
Property sector expert Susan Lloyd‑Hurwitz as Chair of the Council will be joined today by Deputy Chair Dr Marcus Spiller and Council members Michael Lennon, Gail McGowan PSM, Professor Rachel ViforJ, Carolyn Viney, Helen Waters Silvia and Neil Willmett.
The Council is currently advising on the Albanese Labor Government’s National Housing and Homelessness Plan, a 10‑year strategy which sets out a shared vision to inform future housing and homelessness policy in Australia.
Today’s meeting comes just a few weeks after the opening of the first round of funding for social and affordable homes under the Housing Australia Future Fund and the National Housing Accord.
