First Nation Community Advisory Committee

Swan Hill Rural City Council is calling on members of our First Nation Community to join an Advisory Committee and help shape the future of upcoming projects.

Council’s Aboriginal Community Development Officer, Jacinta Chaplin said an advisory committee would provide an opportunity for Council to gain expertise and feedback on Council projects.

“Council has several exciting projects currently underway, that will be significantly enhanced by the involvement of our First Nation Community.

“We are looking forward to greater recognition of First Nations culture in Council projects and increasing job opportunities for local First Nations people

“We are particularly seeking input for our Pental Island Masterplan, Swan Hill Tourism and Cultural hub and the Swan Hill Regional Art gallery redevelopment.

“The Advisory Committee aims to strengthen relationships between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and non-Indigenous peoples and assist our journey towards reconciliation,” Ms Chaplin said.

Ms Chaplin said Committee members would be required to meet 1-2 times per month, for a period of up to 2 years.

“Sitting fees will be payable to individual community members for their attendance and contribution,” she added.
