The Albanese Labor Government is helping deliver a more resilient and accessible future for Mooloolaba, with the first section of the new terraced seawall now open to the community.
Funded by the Albanese Government and Sunshine Coast Council, the new seawall has been designed to better protect community assets, including parklands, pathways, public facilities and essential underground services from the impacts of coastal hazards.
The innovative terraced design creates a seamless connection between the foreshore parkland and the beach, while also providing informal seating and recreational space for the community to enjoy.
The Albanese Government is contributing over $7.9 million to the project through the Disaster Ready Fund, supporting long-term resilience and helping safeguard the region’s coastal communities against future natural hazards.
This month work is focused on continuation of seawall works together with stormwater infrastructure in the park area and the Sunshine Coast Council aim to have the next section of seawall open by December, weather conditions permitting.
While construction of the broader foreshore project continues, local residents and visitors are encouraged to visit the site and experience the first stage of the upgraded coastline infrastructure.
As works continue, more sections of the foreshore will reopen, including additional seawall terraces with more trees and vegetation for shade access points, and new public amenities, gradually transforming the area into a more accessible, resilient and welcoming beachfront destination.
Stage Two of the foreshore’s revitalisation is expected to be completed in March 2027.
