Five teenagers have been charged following a police operation on the Mid North Coast earlier today.
About 6am (Wednesday 22 May 2024), officers attached to Mid North Coast Police District and Highway Patrol sighted a black Range Rover – reportedly stolen – allegedly travelling at high speed on the Pacific Highway, Moorland, about 20km north of Taree.
Road spikes were deployed on the Pacific Highway at Herons Creek – about 25km south of Port Macquarie – before the vehicle crashed into a barrier.
Four boys – aged between 15 and 17 – were taken to Port Macquarie Police Station.
A fifth boy, aged 17, was arrested and taken to Port Macquarie Hospital for treatment of minor injuries sustained during the crash.
The 15-year-old boy and one of the 16-year-olds were charged with be carried in conveyance taken without consent of owner, and possess prohibited drug.
The other 16-year-old boy was charged with take and drive conveyance without consent of owner, be carried in conveyance taken without consent of owner, and breach of bail.
A 17-year-old boy was charged with be carried in conveyance taken without consent of owner.
All four were refused bail to appear before a children’s court tomorrow (23 May 2024).
The injured 17-year-old boy was charged with two counts of be carried in conveyance taken without consent of owner, attempt aggravated assault with intent to take/drive motor vehicle, and breach of bail.
He appeared before a children’s court today (Wednesday 22 May 2024) where he was formally refused bail to appear before the same court on Thursday 6 June 2024.
