Five in custody as investigations into ‘grab and run’ thefts continue, NSW

Four males are in custody after a ‘grab and run’ theft in Sydney’s south, and another is in custody at Hornsby after being discovered with an outstanding warrant following a call about men loitering in an electronic store.

About 1pm (Monday 10 June 2019), police were called to a shopping centre on Taren Point Road, Taren Point, after up to nine males stole electronics, including laptops and TVs, from an electrical store.

Officers from Sutherland Police Area Command attended. A short time later they stopped a vehicle in Linden Street, Sutherland.

Four male occupants of the vehicle, aged 18, 17, and two aged 16, were arrested. Electrical devices police allege to be stolen were seized from the vehicle.

The males were taken to Sutherland Police Station where they are assisting with inquiries.

The remaining men have been described as being of African appearance, and inquiries continue to locate them.

Several members of the public attempted to intervene during the incident, and police would urge those persons to come forward.

In another incident, about 2.30pm (Monday 10 June 2019), police were called to an electronic store at a shopping centre on Florence Street, Hornsby, after reports of several mails loitering in the store.

Police attended and one man, aged 24, was arrested at the scene, after he was found to have an outstanding warrant. A speaker, suspected of being stolen, was also located in his possession.

He has been taken to Hornsby Police Station.
