FIVE LEVEL CROSSINGS TO BE REACTIVATED AS LOOP LINE UPGRADE REACHES MAJOR MILESTONE

Transport Heritage NSW

Transport Heritage NSW will mark the reactivation of five level crossings between Buxton and Colo Vale on Wednesday 22 July as the Loop Line Upgrade Project moves into its final stages of construction.

Transport Heritage NSW CEO Andrew Moritz will be joined by Member for Wollondilly Judy Hannan MP and Wingecarribee Shire Council Mayor Jesse Fitzpatrick at the Coates Road Level Crossing in Hill Top to mark the milestone and raise community awareness of changed road conditions.

WHAT The reactivation of five level crossings along the Loop Line between Buxton and Colo Vale. The crossings are located at:

  • East Parade, Buxton South
  • Balmoral Village
  • Railway Parade, Balmoral South
  • Coates Road, Hill Top
  • Fitzroy Street, Hill Top

The reactivation will allow rail construction vehicles and, later, ballast trains to travel along the upgraded section of the line.

Once construction is completed later this year, Transport Heritage NSW will also be able to begin track testing and crew training ahead of future heritage train operations.

Significant work has been undertaken to improve safety, visibility and road surface conditions at each crossing. Three new pedestrian level crossings are also being installed at key locations along the corridor.Road conditions and rules are changing at these locations. Motorists must stop at the new signs, check for approaching trains and only proceed when it is safe to do so. These road rules will be enforceable, and fines may apply.
