The McGowan Government will build five brand new schools in Perth’s growing suburbs – Baldivis, Brabham, Yanchep, Harrisdale and Southern River – to ensure young Western Australians have access to quality education.
The new schools provide across-the-board enrolment relief for Western Australia’s growing northern, eastern and southern suburbs – ensuring better education options for WA families.
The new $17 million Baldivis South Primary School (planning name) will open in 2021, accommodating up to 430 students from kindergarten to Year 6. Construction will begin in late 2019.
The rapidly growing Swan Urban Growth Corridor will welcome the new $18.5 million Brabham Primary School in 2021, with construction beginning late next year. It will take 540 students from kindergarten to Year 6.
Yanchep will see construction of the new $17.3 million Sunningdale Primary School (planning name) beginning in late 2019 and the school set to open in 2021. It will have capacity for 430 students.
Harrisdale North Primary School (planning name) will begin construction next year and open in 2020, with the second stage set to open in 2021. The $20.5 million facility will accommodate up to 540 students from kindergarten to Year 6.
The first $7.2 million stage of Southern River Primary School (planning name) will begin construction in early 2020 and open in 2021, with room for up to 160 kindergarten and pre-primary students. Stage two will be completed for the start of the 2023 school year and cater for up to 540 students.
The McGowan Government is investing more than $513.6 million in 2018-19 to build new WA public schools and upgrade existing facilities across the State, creating jobs for Western Australians and ensuring students have access to modern education facilities.
The start of the 2019 school year will see the following new schools open their doors to ease pressure on current schools in their area:
- Aspiri Primary School, Piara Waters;
- Aveley North Primary School, Aveley;
- Oakwood Primary School, Meadow Springs; and
- Southern Grove Primary School, Southern River.
More new primary schools which are expected to open in 2020 include Grandis Primary School in Banksia Grove, Baldivis North Primary School, Byford South East Primary School and Caversham South Primary School.

- The new school will relieve enrolment pressure on nearby schools, with the City of Swan being one of the fastest-growing areas in the State
Sunningdale Primary School (planning name), Yanchep:
- Located at 35 Sunningdale Road, Yanchep
- Construction begins 2019
- Opening in 2021
- Accommodating up to 430 students from kindergarten to Year 6
- The brand new facilities will feature a dedicated teaching block for kindergarten and pre-primary classes as well as three classroom buildings, which will include a specialised art and craft room. A covered assembly area with a canteen and music room will be part of the development, in addition to a library resource centre, staff and conference room, and administration building. There will also be an oval and hard courts for sports, and staff and parent parking
Harrisdale North Primary School (planning name):
- Located on Reilly Road, Harrisdale
- Construction begins 2019
- First stage opens 2020; second stage 2021
- Accommodating up to 540 students from kindergarten to Year 6
- New school will feature kindergarten and pre-primary classrooms, three general teaching blocks, a library resource centre, administration block and staff and parent parking. Students will be able to enjoy a covered assembly area with a canteen along with a music room, hard courts and an oval for their sporting and outdoor activities
- The new school will ease enrolment pressures on nearby Harrisdale Primary School
Southern River Primary School (planning name):
- Located on 134 Matison Street, Southern River
- Construction of first stage begins in 2020; opening in 2021
- Construction of second stage to be completed by 2023
- Accommodating up to 540 students from kindergarten to Year 6 when second stage is complete
- Stage one will include five classrooms, administration and reception areas, offices, an interview room and parking
- Upon completion, the new school will provide for the rapidly developing area of Southern River
