Residents are invited to comment on five strategies ranging from managing growth and waste to which day should the Australia Day Awards be held.

Kempsey Shire Council has placed several strategies on public exhibition through Your Say Macleay and is seeking feedback from the public.

Have these documents captured the character of your area?

Many things make living in the Kempsey Shire special and growth in the area should enhance these qualities.

The state government’s North Coast Regional Plan predicts the Kempsey Shire’s population will experience sustained growth over the next several years. Additionally, predictions show the South West Rocks area will need 1,582 dwellings by 2041.

Over the last 12 months, Council has engaged extensively with the community to develop the draft Local Growth Management Strategy and draft South West Rocks Structure Plan. Both documents articulate a clear vision and framework for the future and the values that the community cherishes and wants to sustain.

Managing waste into the future

Like many communities across Australia, Council is facing new challenges with waste management, particularly solid waste.

The new Waste Management Strategy will guide Council’s transition from providing an adequate waste management service, to one of leadership and innovation in resource recovery and waste prevention.

A plan that makes infrastructure contributions easier

Developer contributions are payments made by developers to enable Council to provide public amenities and services required for new residents and businesses.

The key purpose of the review was to make the plans easier to implement, monitor and report on, and simpler to review in the future.

When should Council hold their Australia Day event?

In recent years, Council has held a successful Citizenship and Awards event at the Slim Dusty Centre on the morning of Australia Day, 26 January.

Moving forward, citizenship ceremonies can take place any day between 23 – 29 January.

When should this event be held from 2024 onwards?

Let us know if these plans are right, or if something has been missed.
