Five teens arrested after stolen car crashes on Eastern Freeway

Police have arrested five teens after a suspected stolen Mazda crashed into roadworks signage in Balwyn North this morning.

Emergency services were called to reports of the crash city-bound on the Eastern Freeway, between Doncaster and Bulleen roads, about 7.15am.

Police were told four males and a female were seen fleeing over a fence into Koonung Creek Trail.

A thorough search of the area from general duties, highway patrol and Dog Squad officers led to the arrest of five people near the intersection of Arama and Oravel streets.

An 18-year-old man sustained minor injuries after being bitten by a police dog but did not require medical treatment.

A 16-year-old male was transported to hospital after sustaining minor injuries in the crash.

A machete was seized by officers after being located in a nearby yard.

Three 16-year-old boys, a 17-year-old girl and an 18-year-old man are expected to be interviewed.

The investigation is ongoing.
