As part of the Toowoomba Regional Council’s (TRC) 2022 Flood Recovery Program, the community can expect to see more than 100 culverts/floodways replaced and repaired across the Region including 52 with significant upgrades.
Twenty-nine culvert projects have already commenced with 18 completed so far.
TRC Infrastructure Committee Chair Cr Carol Talor said, “These new culverts will be a great asset to the community as we work towards restoring the damage to our road network from the consecutive flood events in 2021 and 2022.”
In July 2023, Council engaged two delivery partners, Golding Contractors working in the south of the Region and Georgiou Group working in the north, to assist Council’s internal Construction and Maintenance teams in the delivery of the 2022 Flood Recovery Program.
“With a large amount of Flood Recovery Works happening across the Region, we have been pleased with the communities’ support in following traffic management signage and the direction of our traffic controllers,” Cr Taylor said.
“We continue to ask for your patience and understanding especially with short term road closures often required as part of the culvert replacement program.”
Total repair works for the 2022 Flood Recovery Program is expected to exceed $250 million with assistance provided through the jointly-funded Commonwealth-State Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements (DRFA). Flood Recovery Program works are expected to be completed by the end of 2024 (weather permitting).
