The Bureau of Meteorology issued an initial minor flood warning for the Macelay River at 9.01am on Saturday.

The minor flood warning outlines a peak of approximately 300mm greater than the minor flood level (6.0m) at Georges Creek, with other gauges downstream not anticipated to exceed the minor flood level at this stage.

Bridges that cross the Macleay River upstream of Kempsey are expected to closed over the course of Saturday and overnight into Sunday.

FLOOD WARNING

The Bureau of Meteorology warning states:

“Moderate to heavy rain has been observed in the Upper Macleay during Friday and has produced river level rises in the tributaries of the Macleay River upstream of Georges Creek.

“Minor flooding is likely on Saturday morning at Georges Creek.

“Further rainfall is forecast over the catchment from the remainder of Saturday and into the early next week, which may cause further rises in the Macleay River catchment. The situation is being closely monitored and revised predictions will be provided as required.”
