Moderate to heavy rainfall across the upper Murray River catchment from Wednesday is causing increased inflows to the Hume Dam.
Releases from Hume Dam to manage high inflows, combined with increased contribution from the Kiewa River is expected to cause minor flooding along the Murray River at Corowa from Friday onwards.
Minor flooding is expected along the Murray River at Corowa.
The Murray River at Corowa is likely to exceed the minor flood level (4.60 m) Friday morning. The river level may reach 5.10 metres Saturday night with minor flooding. Further rises are possible.
What we are expecting:
Based on the prediction provided by the Bureau of Meteorology it is expected the following areas will be impacted by dangerous floodwaters:
Albury to Howlong
Low lying areas of properties between Albury – Howlong – Corowa begin to get flooded.
Grazing paddocks become flooded Albury – Howlong.
Lower section of Noreuil Park inundated – access roads likely close.
Mungarbareena Road to Doctors Point Estate East Albury may close.
Corowa
Low lying areas to become flood effected
Reserves and forests along the river will also be flooded. At the predicted height, no flooding is expected from the river in built up areas of Corowa itself.
What you need to do:
Farmers are encouraged to:
Move pumps, animals, and equipment to higher ground.
Move poisons, waste, and chemicals to high storage locations.
Avoid flooded roads
This bulletin means that people living or working along the Murray River should be vigilant for fluctuating river levels from the Dam to Corowa and downstream.
Caravan Parks along the river need to monitor conditions closely and relocate away from the river.
Bureau of Meteorology Flood Warnings will be issued if Minor Flood Level is expected to be exceeded flood classification levels.
