Flowerdale Community Wins Big With Sports Upgrades

  • Parliamentary Secretary for Sport

Flowerdale sporting clubs have reason to celebrate today with the official opening of new female friendly change rooms at Spring Valley Recreation Reserve to host even more events thanks to funding from the Andrews Labor Government.

Parliamentary Secretary for Sport Danielle Green officially opened the new pavilion made possible with a $165,920 grant from the Labor Government’s Community Sports Infrastructure Fund.

Home to the Flowerdale Sports Club, the change rooms were outdated and in desperate need of an upgrade to bring them up to modern and appropriate standards.

The new female friendly change rooms are now more accessible and provide a safer and more user-friendly environment for the close to 250 tennis, cricket and bowls players who depend on the reserve, especially women and girls.

This project is part of the Government’s strong commitment to sport and active recreation, gender equality and encouraging all Victorians to get out there and get active.

The Government has invested more than $850 million in community sport and recreation facilities across Victoria since 2014, providing better health, wellbeing, social and economic outcomes for Victorian communities.

This investment also includes the new $22 million Local Sports Infrastructure Fund, part of a new suite of community infrastructure investment programs that are now open including the World Game Facilities Fund, Community Cricket Program and Community Sports Infrastructure Loans Scheme.

The Government also acknowledged the Murrindindi Shire Council, Flowerdale Sports Club, and Marysville Triangle Community Foundation for their financial contribution and commitment to deliver the project.
