Footpath inspections are underway

Worker in hi-vis on vehicle with cameras and laptop

Mornington Peninsula Shire is undertaking a thorough assessment of our 690km network of footpaths. Inspection work begins this week and will take approximately one month to complete.

Over the next month, you might see one of our asset inspection contractors riding a small quad bike style vehicle with cameras attached, travelling at a brisk walking pace. These cameras are filming the footpath structure only. We will not be recording any commercial, residential or private property. If you come across one of our machines while out and about, rest assured you will not be filmed as all cameras are focused on the path – our team will move out of the way and let you pass without delay.

The findings from these assessments will give us important information about the condition of our footpaths, and help us maintain our network of footpaths more effectively.

We know footpaths are one our community’s top priorities! While we are busy surveying our current network of footpaths, we welcome your feedback on the draft Pedestrian Access Strategy 2023 to help guide the future allocation of funds and to determine which footpaths receive priority, and when. Community consultation is open until 27 October: mornpen.vic.gov.au/footpaths

As always, we welcome community feedback regarding potential hazards in the community. These can be reported via our website:mornpen.vic.gov.au/reportit
