Footpath renewals underway

Bass Coast Shire Council footpath renewal works are currently underway along Seascape Avenue in Cowes and Merrin Crescent in Wonthaggi.

Work on these projects is expected to take up to four weeks to be completed, subject to favourable weather conditions and contractor availability.

These works are being funded through Council’s Footpath Renewal Program, as part of its 2020/21 Capital Works Program, with $60,000 for the Cowes project and $40,000 for the Wonthaggi works.

The aim of these projects is to improve access by providing residents and the greater community with a safe pedestrian connection to the area and nearby shopping precincts.

Along Seascape Avenue, the work will include the removal of sections of the existing path on both sides of the road, which are damaged by existing street trees, as well as the installation of tree root barriers to protect the new footpath as required. Council’s qualified arborist will be available onsite to provide assistance to the contractor during these works.

Along Merrin Crescent, the work will involve the removal of the existing path and replacing 130 metres with a 1.5-metre-wide fibre reinforced concrete path.

Council understands that these works may present an inconvenience to residents and the community and appreciates their patience during the construction period. The contractors will make every effort to minimise disruptions.
