Formal apology to be made on 8 November 2022

Jeremy Rockliff, Premier

The Commission of Inquiry has shone an important light on the failings that have occurred across multiple Governments, of all colours and persuasions.

As I have said previously, I am deeply sorry for the past failings of our institutions, and acknowledge the ongoing trauma and impacts these failings have had, on too many Tasmanians.

As committed earlier this year, a formal apology will be made to the Parliament, which will be extended to all people who have been failed by Tasmanian Government institutions, not just those who have participated in the Commission of Inquiry.

Following consultation, and in light of sensitives around a number of parliamentary sitting days, I can confirm the Apology will be made on 8 November 2022.

This date will be advertised in newspapers later this week, with a registration process to enable transport support to victim-survivors if needed. Further information will be available on the DPAC website later today.

Psychological and financial support will also be available, recognising the impact this will likely have on victim-survivors, along with their families and friends.
