Former officer charged – Southern Region 21 March

A former senior constable has been charged with historical sexual offences.

In June 2020, the Professional Standards Command commenced an investigation following a report that a woman had allegedly been sexually assaulted by a police officer in the state’s south in 1998.

Following extensive inquiries, a 53-year-old man was arrested at Tweed Heads Police Station about 10am today (Tuesday 21 March 2023).

He was charged with two counts of assault with act of indecency, two counts of sexual intercourse without consent and holder of public office misconduct.

Police will allege in court that in October 1998, the then aged 28-year-old officer sexually assaulted the woman, then aged 17 while on-duty.

The man was granted conditional bail to appear before Tweed Heads Local Court on Monday 24 April 2023.
