Former swim coach to face further 47 charges over historical sexual assaults, NSW

A former swimming instructor will be charged with 47 additional charges as part of ongoing investigations into allegations of historical sexual assaults at a swimming school in Sydney’s south-west.

In August, detectives from Bankstown Police Area Command commenced an investigation under Strike Force Colbran after receiving reports of child grooming and sexual abuse at a former swim school at Padstow.

Strike force investigators arrested and charged a 43-year-old man last week, who remains before the courts.

Following further inquiries, detectives will lay an additional 47 grooming, aggravated indecent assault and aggravated sexual assault offences against the 43-year-old man.

Police will allege in court that the man groomed and sexually abused a further nine boys on a number of occasions between 1997 and 2009, when the boys were aged between eight and 16.

It’s alleged the man was the boys’ swimming coach at the time of the incidents.

The man was refused bail to appear at Sutherland Local Court today (Thursday 26 September 2019).

Investigations are ongoing.
