Four in hospital after van carrying six flips at Auburn, NSW

A van carrying six people hit a light pole and flipped at Auburn this morning.

Emergency services were called to South Parade shortly before 4am (Sunday 17 March 2019), and found the five-seater Hiace van had snapped the pole in half and rolled onto its side.

The driver and four passengers were able to free themselves; however, officers from Auburn Police Area Command had to smash a window to release a fifth passenger trapped inside.

Paramedics took four passengers to Westmead Hospital for assessment.

The driver, a 47-year-old man from South Granville, returned a positive roadside breath test and was arrested.

He was taken to Auburn Police Station where he refused to undergo a breath analysis.

He has now been charged with

• Negligent driving (no death or grievous bodily harm)

• Refuse or fail to submit to breath analysis

• Drive with unrestrained passenger

• Licence expired two years or more.

The man was granted conditional bail to appear in Burwood Local Court on Thursday 18 April 2019.
