Four inmates charged after investigation into introduction of contraband at South Coast facility, NSW

Four inmates have been charged as part of an ongoing investigation into the introduction of contraband into a correctional facility on the state’s South Coast.

In March 2020, detectives from the Corrective Services Investigation Unit established Strike Force Draymar to investigate reports of corrupt activity by a male Corrective Services employee.

So far during the investigation, detectives have charged a 50-year-old man and two women – aged 29 and 32. All three remain before the courts.

Following further inquiries, strike force investigators attended a correctional facility on the state’s South Coast and arrested four male inmates – aged 28, 30, 40 and 45 – yesterday (Thursday 14 May 2020).

The men were taken to Nowra Police Station where the 28-year-old man was charged with two counts of supply prohibited drug (indictable quantity), two counts of supply prohibited drug and knowingly/recklessly direct criminal group assist crime.

The 30-year-old man was charged with two counts of supply prohibited drug (indictable quantity), supply prohibited drug, corruptly give/offer to other benefit and knowingly/recklessly direct criminal group assist crime.

The 42-year-old man was charged with two counts of corruptly give/offer to other benefit and knowingly/recklessly direct criminal group assist crime.

The 45-year-old man was charged with two counts of corruptly give/offer to agent benefit, two counts of use or possess mobile phone/part etc in place of detention and knowingly/recklessly direct criminal group assist crime.

All four men were remanded in custody and are due to appear at Nowra Local Court on Monday 13 July 2020.

Investigations under Strike Force Draymar are ongoing.
